anyways there are several more basically all the same and this is REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY making me VERY mad! About every 2 weeks my audio just shuts down. Nothing. Windows detects no audio hardware. I have to reinstall all the codecs. Its bs. Ive tried everything to fix this last problem (i was missing other things). I did not yet read the guides in the stickied posts; sorry. But ive been googling and searching for a way to fix this problem for the past 2 hours, and i doubt those guides will help. Please, help me......

p.s. im not very sure where to put this thread. Sorry if i put it in the wrong place; im at my wit's end.

Ok, I just got some more info from winamp, it says my direct sound drivers are bad. I will pursue this new thread of info for now.

      That doesn't work :/

I've figured out what the problem is, just not how to fix it. I need to make a system wide change of which audio device to use. I am able to change the device in winAMP or WMP9 (shudder), but not in my system. I need to change it from "Primary Sound Driver" to Intel integrated audio blah blah blah

      Not sure how to tho
