can't get wmv files to play on divx player or bs player

I installed one of those huge codec packs, ace codec pack, and it gave me alote of problems, so I uninstalled all the codec packs on my computer and installed the following codecs in order.

    divx codec
    xvid codec
    divx player
    bsplayer
    quick time
    the-codecs, a codec pack recomend by divx-digest.com

Now I can not get my wmv files to play on divx player or bs player. I get "can't open file error" in bs player
and "the file can not be opened, unknown exception caught" in divx player.

WMV files play fine in WMP9, but I hate the interface.

    thanks

    Same problem here

    Dear Dave,

I also installed Ace Codec Pack and uninstalled it.
After this I also cannot play WMV files anymore and playing xvid files gives an error while exiting BSPlayer.
I still don't know what the answer to this problem is, but I think it has something to do with th Ace Codec pack...

    Greets,

        either:

        1. re-install windows media player

        2. read the list given by the LT, go into ffdshow's configuration, and set wmv from diabled to 'libavcodec'
