    help with editing avi file

hi, i'm new here, i'm not trying to be a professional at this i just need alittle help. i want to burn this movie on a cd, i don't care if its in dvd format or just regular data cd this avi file on it. the problem is that the file is alittle too big (699mb) my burner can only burn about 697. so what i wanna know is how can i fix this, can i compress this file to make it 2-4mb smaller, or should i just edit it alittle, cut off something at the end.

if i'm gonna do that, i would also like to know another thing, when i d/led this file my computer crashed acouple of times and i had to resume, when i watch the movie, it had minor faults in it. i use windows media player and about 5 time the picture would just freeze, the sound would keep going but the picture stayed frozen until i forwarded the movie alittle, just acouple of seconds forward and the picture would come back on, is there a way to fix this, i'm sure there has to be something...

if anyone can help, please reply to this post, thank you

You can, of course, cut off a small part of the movie (about 2MB worth) so that you can burn it onto a CD.

As for the corrupted frames you've been encountering, use DivFix. Open the file and then rebuild index. That should do the trick of aloowing you to play the movie smoothly, though you will still see some corrupted frames where you used to be stopped before.

hey, thanks alot, this program works pretty good, it took out half the "frozen spots". you have any idea why it didn't fix the others?

anyway what program should i use to cut the end of the movie?

Use Virtual Dub, the best avi editor in town- the only problem is that you may not be able to cut exactly where you want to, since divx files only allow you to cut on keyframes.
