Editing movie stored on HDD

What application can I use for this please. Pinnacle won't start up without a 1394 card.

Are you referring to simple editing, such as editing out pieces of the movie - or something more in-depth (fades, etc.)?

Simple stuff really, but anything more advanced would be of interest.

If the movie is in:

1) .AVI format (DivX-compressed or otherwise) - Use VirtualDub or VIrtualDubMOD

2) MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 - Use TMPGEnc

3) DVD - Use DVD Shrink in "Re-author" mode

Many thanks, have used Shrink on this trial clip to cut front and end "unwanteds", didn't realise I could edit the whole clip with it.
I'm learning !

Have now loaded my (nero show time) files into Shrink.
I can view the video, also clip start and finish, but can't see how to do anything in between (delete scenes etc), am I missing something here please ?
