    File Length Changing

i encoded 2 files (dvd format) in tmpgenc plus then i go and join them with "mpeg tools". i select "mpeg-2 program(vbr)" and join them ok. i noticed something weird though.

i have this joined file now, if i play it in windows media player it will say 51:39 (for example). now when i load this same file into dvd author 1.6, it says 50:02. what the heck? could this have something to do with the fact it was a 23.976 fps and the 3:2 pulldown when playback selections? is it wmp that cant recognize the dvd?

Forget about the INDICATED times. If you create your DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author, does it PLAY the full video?

      problems problems...

ok setarip, after that last post i burned it on a rw disc to check it out. something happened that i didnt expect. i'm not concerned about the time issue anymore cause the whole video seems to be there.

now the 2 encoded files from tmpgenc plus turned out mint sound and picture. so then i joined them in mpeg tools mpeg2 program (vbr) like you told me. now i put that file through dvd author and on disc--ok.

playback results---the last few seconds of the "first half" the sound goes out of synch and stays that way past the "splice" and through the rest of the disc.
      omg!!!i'm so frustrated now.(this was a test with (2) 2 minute files.

my first attempt was (2) 45 minute files and the same thing happened, only it was the last 2minutes or so that was out of synch on the "first half", past the splice and throughout the rest of the disc.

i guess the same effect happened in both scenarios but in their respective proportions.
i must be doin somethin wrong.

note: all files before joining have audio and video in synch,
and before i forget i always encode in "CBR" could this be the problem? do i have to have VBR encoded files in order to join them?

      much appreciated your efforts setarip

        "much appreciated your efforts setarip"

        As always, my pleasure ;>}

As long as your final step is using "TMPGEnc DVD Author", there's no need to join the now DVD-compliant MPEG-2s using "TMPGEnc". Simply load them both into the same track in "TMPGEnc DVD Author"...

(If I remember correctly, your other thread was primarily concerned with how to use "TMPGEnc" to create and join two DVD-compliant MPEG-2s)

cool. ty setarip. you know i did think of that( loading the 2 files in dvd author) the reason i didnt try it was because i figured dvd author would make it like 2 chapters so the 2 files wouldnt be joined.

so your sayin i should load them under the same track and dvd author will "join" the 2 with no break between the 2 halves?
          do i understand you correctly?

          as always ty greatly
