i extracted the file now and i have bup, ifo, vob files...but using nero the burn is marked out..i cant burn..why?

Have a look at the attached file and make sure B4 you import your DVD files into Nero Express the option on the top is marked x: your drive [DVD] and choose DVD Video files and follow the normal burn procedure...

If this is what is causing you problems then can you post a nero express log...

I am pretty sure that it all looks normal, except the burn button is greyed out for some reason. I do get to express OK, and I can play the files indivually with player, but cant set nero to burn them

Perhaps a silly question but, do you have a DVD burner as part of your setup?

Nah, the invoice shows superdrive anyway...I found out my problem, doh! I didnt put the files into video folder...thanks for your interest ayway.
One thing, aside, on nero, what is the audio folder for on express? I loaded all files into the video folder and burnt ok, it works ect, original file is 3.8 gig, picture is Ok, sound is good but not 5.1. How can you tell by files if it is 5.1. I hate doing all this to find out later it is not 5.1

The "AUDIO_TS" folder is a part of the original DVD standards. For typical movie DVDs, it will always be empty. Some (much) older standalone DVD players will not play a DVD unless the "AUDIO_TS" folder is present.

By purchasing the original commercial DVD (Read the rules of these forums, particularly Rule #6. You're getting quite close to violating them)

If that's the case, then I apologize. However, since your initial post to this thread refers to extracting .RAR files, it's difficult to understand how you could be referring to "a backup copy of the original".

I guess the important thing is that you appear to have rsolved your problem...

If you have Nerovision Express 3 with all the plugins, you should be able to do prtty much what Nero express does but you have the added control of which audio format your final files will have... Dolby Digital 5.1 being the default...

If you have a full set of DVD files (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) on your hard drive, simply use (Freeware) DVD Shrink to "Open Files" - It will display all the information you need regarding the format of audiostreams...
