Avi File Wont Play Ball

I downloaded an 871Mb AVI file from Shareaza. When I try to play it, it just froze the player which ever one I tried. Used both Avifix and divfix and got the same error message
"Unable to located MOVI data blocks"
am still a newbie at this but dont like to be beaten. Any suggestions ?.

Avoid downloading the work products of others, because you never know what you'll get - fake files, corrupted files, viruses...

Appreciate what you are saying but surely its part of the learning curve, perhaps if I can find out why it does not work it will give me a greater understanding of the subject.
