    backing up games

Hi guys. Does anyone know if you can back up PS2 games?
Just had the bitter experience of my copy of San Andreas becoming corrupt and to replace it will cost me £40. A damn sight more than a knackered DVD.
Any one help on this one?

A Nero CD copy is a possibility. Alcohol 120 is another. Both are available for trials

I'm not fully up with the different Nero editions but it has been making backups here for some years, IBM compatible mind.

cheers mate. Would there be a capacity issue trying to back up on a standard 4.7GB disk?....am i right in thinking that games are normally on dual layer disks?

I've not come across a game yet larger than 4.7Gb. It'll happen I guess one day if not already. Then you might hit a problem

Just tried it on nero and no error messages came up. However when i put it in the PS2 a screen came up asking for a PS2 formatted disk.
After the mare of my San Andreas game currupting i've realised that it's a lot more important to back up my games rather than DVD. Replacing a game is 40 notes!!

Commercial media are usually a lot more robust than recordables. Have you tried cleaning the disk?

tried everything mate. Think i need something a bit more powerful than the likes of shrink or decryptor....they wouldn't even recognise the disk to copy. Had to use nero.
I know it's doable but just don't have the info to do it.
Only just replaced my PS2 with the new version at £95 and now i'm going to have to but San Andreas again at £30...it's getting awfully expensive

In addition to the ability to backup the DVD, the system requires a mod chip...

                          Hi,
Also looked into backing up games. Seems you need a part called a "MOD CHIP" for your PS2. There are different chips depending on your exact model (by serial #) of PS2. The chip must be soldered into the board. The big thing is the seal on the case is broken when this is done so it volds any warranty. After the Mod Chip is installed you can play backup copys of games on your machine. I don't know of any software that can backup a game that will play directly on a PS2.
