    Dont use VBR? Interlaced video?

I ripped a DVD using divx 4.12 and I encoded the audio using Lame vbr. The audio seems to go out of sync every once in a while, but most of the time it is fine. Then I have heard some people say that using vbr causes sync problems. Is this really true? Maybe I joined the audio and the avi improperly. I would prefer to using vbr but if necessary I will use lame 160kb/s.

Also, whats the best way to get rid of interlacing that is on some of my music concert dvds? Will the deinterlacing option in divx 4.12 configuration be sufficient?

I was trying to make an avi file smaller a while back and every time I loaded it into virtual dub it would say "this file is in vbr, it must be converted ot abr" or something like that

and I think it's impossible to join two vbr avi's

I don't think it's any good at all (4.12 Deinterlace option). You'd be better off using Smart Deinterlacer or the likes of it.

As for your audio problem, I've never used a VBR track before. I always use constant bitrate track (128kbps or higher). Nandub can join the audio and video together without complaining a thing about the audio being a constant bitrate (even if the option in it says VBR MP3 audio too).
