    Digital Video Formats

I am trying to understand the best quality video format for my recorded DVDs. I will be using these files to stream to a digital media receiver and displayed on my 16:9 TV. I need to maintain the 5.1 audio stream as well.

The VOB files created by DVD Shrink seem to be the best quality, but the files are huge. How does this format compare to MPEG2, DivX, AVI, etc?

      Great! Thanks for the help.

So, it looks like DVDs use MPEG-2. Does anyone know where to get good ripping software that creates DVD-quality MPEG-2 files? I have tried some, but the playback quality on the plasma display was less than desirable.
