      heres more info, this is what g-spot tells me: video codec 4ccX50/divx, nameivX 5.0 (says 2 compatible codecs installed)

      audio codec, name:ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc (says 2 compatible codecs installed)

      now under direct show render, video source type:4cc: DX50
      audio source: (this are is blank)!

      video path:S) --> AVI Splitter --> ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder --> DivXG400 --> (R)

      audio path: (this are is blank too)!

      and yet it says rendering succesful, when i look at those details it doesnt say anything about audio here either.

      note:i am 100% of the file being good, i already had it on a disc at one time and it encoded excellent.

      any ideas? what does this info tell you?ty fellas

              Have you made any OTHER changes or additions to your system since the CD that you previously had played properly?

                excellent question setarip. yes i had the pc upgraded. and the same kind of codecs i tried to re-install don't work like before. last time with my setup, every file worked.

                i just tried tmpgenc and the file has sound, but when encodes, no audio.

                i took the pc back to the shop and they say everything is good.
                i did have viruses the entire time, while my system was good before the upgrade, but they said since windows was reinstalled it "stirred up the viruses" they are now removed as per them, and a scan by norton says system good. dont seem to have anything strange happenning anymore, but this is the first day after 4 attempts that the pc doesnt reset and stay on a black screen.(i couldnt, reset, turn off)i had to hit the switch at the back of the tower. now all of a sudden its been on for about 7 hrs without problems.

                but email, internet evrything seems to work great except playing of videos and encoding. i did some reading about disabling the (DEP) data execution prevention as it conflicts with divx.
                i really am my wits end here. whata ya think setarip?i appreciate
                your expert assistance---somewhere lies the answer.

                  With all that you NOW mention you've had/have going on, I wouldn't be willing to speculate any further.

                  Perhaps another poster will offer some suggestions...
