    Capture streaming video?

Hi, Does anybody know how to or know of a program that will allow you to download a streaming video to your hard drive? I have been racking my brain all night! I am usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out but this time it seems BILL GATES HAS WON!I have tried camtasia, easy video capture and just about everything else. My last resort is Streambox but I cant seem to find a link for it. If I could at least get a link for streambox that would be great. Thank you in advance for any help I may get.

If the site is licensing/allowing you to capture its video, you should be able to simply rightclick on the filename and select "Save Target As".

If you are not able to do this, it's because you're not licensed to - and, if that is the case, you shouldn't be asking here how to circumvent this protection, because such questions are in violation of the rules of these forums...

Yes and No. Any authoring or re-encoding of any kind is in violation of SOMEBODYS licence. I have paid for the video I wish to save but I did not know that I could not save or I would have not paid for the video in question. We are all here to help each other and I respect that you wish not to help me. But please do not make me feel like I am doing something wrong by wanting to save a video which I have paid for. Also, I totally agree that nobody for any reason should try to violate any copyright laws or licenses for that matter--but as I have mentioned before I paid for the item. I thank you for your time.

        "I paid for the item."

At the risk of offending you, in essence I'll repeat what I said - If you have purchased a license that is LIMITED to viewing a streaming video, you have NOT purchased the right to download that video...

At the risk of offending you, Ill repeat what i said,All I want to do is the same as everyone else. Archive my OWN property. The same as backing up a dvd. Most people dont know that backing up a dvd is not illegal BUT decrypting thier code IS, Therefore using dvd shrink dvdx copy or any other dvd copy program is in essence breaking the license of the owner which is the company that made the dvd. I do not feel as though I am asking anything that any other person in this forum is asking for---HELP. But I can see that that wont happen so to avoid offending someone I will not ask for help anymore. thank you.

As my last posting to this thread, I'll correct you yet once again - If you purchased a LIMITED license (limited to viewing a streaming video) you DON'T OWN the video.

            Bye...

("Most people dont know that backing up a dvd is not illegal BUT decrypting thier code IS"

You've almost got it right. The courts in most countries have found that the CREATION (NOT the use) of the code necessary to decrypt [remove the CSS copy protection] an encrypted DVD is illegal)

And you sir do not OWN the media on the dvds which you are backing up or helping others to decrypt or re-encode or even take the copy protection off the dvd. That is their license and property. That is WHY it is COPY PROTECTION, So nobody can rip it or copy it without breaking thier license. So law abiding is not a constant on this forum. If it is copy protected that means you or anyone else do not have the right to break it. I am sorry we have had this exchange, I am very easy going and dont like being upset. If I have offended you I apologize. I am revoking my membership here and will not be back. Once again I thank you for your time. Good day.

Well just to point something out in hopes to kill some steam.

Just do a Search on your hard drive for the Temporay File.
                Cheers!

I'm sorry that you seem to be taking this personally but, once again you're interpretation is incorrect.

I make outright PURCHASES of commercial DVDs, via an ordinary sales transaction in which TITLE to the DVD is passed to me. I am legally entitled to make a backup copy for myself, if I can figure out how to do it.

This is NOT the same as a limited license to VIEW.

Once again, there is nothing personal involved in these postings, merely information.

If you are using WMP to view the video click on file> save as while watching the video and it will be saved to your hard drive. Do a google search on "capturing streaming video".
