big problems - cant play any videos at all!

My computer wont play any video files at all since the power accidently shut it down a few days ago.

It doesn't matter if it is a DVD that I try to play in WinDVD or a MPEG/AVI-movie in Media Player, a real movie file in Real Player or Quick Time movie in Quick Time. Nothing works.

I think i've tried it all. I've reinstalled DirectX. Reinstalled most codecs I could find. Reinstalled and upgraded Media Player. Reinstalled WinDVD. I have tried to restore system register backups from safe mode. Nothing works.

Any ideas? I'm getting pretty desperate here, but I dont really wanna format the harddrive.

Oh, btw...I run Windows XP home edition.

Try reinstalling your Video Drivers with the latest version.

If that doesn't help if could be very possible that your video card was Zapped. I would assume you have a nice Serge Protector in place rather then directly plugged into the wall. If not it would make me lean even further towards that your video card might have indeed been zapped.

Your not getting error messages when you attempt to play a video?

It appears as though your software you are using is working but there is no actual display of the video?
    Cheers!

"I run Windows XP home edition"

Try performing a "System Restore" back to the last time things were working properly...

        Thanks!

After downloading the newest video drivers it works again.
