    Trouble playing back some files.

I've obtained some AVI files recently. They're complete, and not faulty (downloaded them repeatedly).

When I try to run them in BSplayer or Windows Media Player, it shows the time (42:36) then crashes. I've got XviD installed.

Does anyone know what could be going on, or how I could find out?

    1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

(I'm presuming you also have an .AC3 audio codec installed)

Try installing the FFDShow filter as well.

If the problem persists, it may be a very well thought out fake file - which is a frequent occurrence/risk when downloading the work of others (Sometimes you "get what you pay for")
