Extremely low volume audio

My video is great but the volume is so low I can hardly hear it when I play it on my computer. Using my DVD player, I have to turn the volume up very high on the TV and the sound has significant distortion. I understnad that DVD shrink doesn't compress video so that's not the problem. Any suggestions?

Are you possibly trying to play a DTS audiostream on a system that's not capable of playing it back properly?

Try using the standalone DVD player's remote control to select another audiostream ("Language" or "Audio" button)...
