finalizing dvd+rw

being new at some of this I've run into some a finalizing/copy problem for which I've seen no discussion. Recording a dvd+rw with a Gateway AR-230 is playable on that device but on non other., even DVD shrink.

Is there a method or download that makes it possile to finalize that dvd+rw so it will read by my computers or dvd home theatre player?

What program are you using to burn on the RW?

Is this DVD writer part of your computer system or a "tabletop" writer that's hooked up to your television?

Unfortunately, I can't find out what algorithm Gateway uses . Yes, the machine is an independent recorder tied to the TV-cable.

The Gateway AR-230 is found in the www.gateway.com site. Talking to the Gateway guys...they know 'nothing' about their product as to what they use. All they can tell me is that as far as they are concerned, if it plays back on their gear then it works ok. Hope this helps.

Do the files on the burned media include any with ".VRO" extensions? Are there any files with extenders OTHER THAN .IFO, .BUP, .VOB?

If so, you can likely use TMPGEnc DVD Author to convert to a "standard" video DVD...

Thanks for the replies.... Here is what I have:
The dir Video_TX has suffixes of BUP,VOB AND IFO

The dir Virdeo_RM has: IFO, BUP plus one with no extender

It SHOULD recognize the files in the "VIDEO_TS" folder...

I tried all of the DVD types in the list for it see and if failed to recognize any of them. It seems as though it was looking for avi's etc not these. Could I have done something wrong?

Use "Open Disk" (NOT "Open Files")...

hmmm, on the program I downloaded there is no open disk. It keeps tryping to open files (TMPGEnc.-2.524.63.181-free

"TMPGEnc DVD Author" is a DIFFERENT program than "TMPGEnc" and "TMPGEncPlus"...

Thanks for the helping info fellas. It appears the resolution to my problem will be to return the AR230 to Gateway. The machine I found to be scratching the DVD surfaces on the DVD+RW's too.

I want to be able to convert my VCR tapes to DVD plus put the kids videocam product onto DVD to preserve them. Can you suggest a product that will do this that has a good track record?

TMPGEnc DVD Author (A different program than TMPGEnc) is the program you need. A trial version can be downloaded via a link at the bottom of my post.
