Divx questions

I have some simple divx questions.
1. Why would I use it?
2. What will it play on?

"DivX", in its several incarnations, is a video high compression codec (a memeber of the MPEG4 family).

You would use it to make significantly smaller files than can be obtained with other compression techniques.

Presently, DivX-compressed videos are only playable on personal computers.

Thanks for the reply. There are all of the how-to's on converting to and from divx, but it didn't tell me what dixv was and why I might want to use it.

Are you seeing any DVD players coming out that support MP4/Divx ?
