Movie will play in computer dvd player but not in sony player

I ripped The Village on DVD-R (Memorex 8x) and it wouldn't play in my sony DVP-s7000, but it would play in my computer dvd player Sony 710a and my moms newer sony player. I then decided to use Memorex DVD+R 8X and burnt in the Grudge. Again it played fine in my computer DVD player and not in my Sony. Is my sony too old. I hate to buy a new DVD player because the Blue Ray DVD players are coming out later this year. Can anyone else make a recommendation. I used DVD decryptor and DVD shrink for burning.
