    SONY DVD RW DW-U18A Firmware

I am having a dog time finding a link to the latest firmware on this DVD burner (aka LiteOn SOHW-812S) The Lite-on firmware will not install.

My current Sony firmware is UYS3. Any links appreciated.

There is a "firmware writer" (Omnipatcher) that you should be able to write a new firmware for that burner. If I recall it - you need to use the cross-flashing option for this purpose. I think you can find more info at http://codeguys.rpc1.org/patchers.html

Thank you folks, for the replies. I recently bought a 2nd drive (Sony-DRU-710A) that I have been using exclusively, and without a problem. However, I wanted to update the firmware on the older drive just to have it up to date. Reading through that thread that Experi-mentor referred to, I see from the date of those posts, and the firmware mentioned (last post page one - UYS1), that I probably have the most up to date firmware.
However, there was a very interesting post on page three from 'Unregistered' suggesting that it can be loaded with LiteOn SOHW-832S firmware to make it dual format, dual layer...is that possible???
Thanks again, and ..uh, Cythia...nice hat..helmet...head thingy. ;<)

Well, I'm glad to hear it's not a stocking cap and you were just growing horns.

BTW, how does one get their face or an icon in that spot?

Click User CP at the top of this page. Then click Edit Options. Then you can add a pic (avatar) above your user information in threads.

At Cynthia's suggestion earlier in this thread, I used Omnipatch to change my Sony to a Lite-On. I have one more verification, but I will be posting a new thread with new information I have found. I think that this info will be overlooked with if someone looks at the subject I started this thread with.
I have actually turned my Sony into a Dual layer Lite-On! I have cut and viewed a dual layered DVD, and am going to use one more verification before starting a new thread.
Thank you again for all your advice.
PS Yes, Cynthia, I should have known that : |
