need good and easy to use software to record TV transmission

anybody can give me advice what software to use?

I have the VAIO desktop with a video capture card, but VAIO software makes it very difficult to record.
Maybe it is old and some of the files have been deleted, since I did not use it really before.

Do you suspect that this has happened? Do you have a recovery applications disk?
