    Burning VOB Files on DVD

    Hi

I am new to DVD files. I downloaded files from the net. They are VOB and few others. I have DVD burner with DVDWIN software. I am not sure how to burn DVD. Should I just copy the VOB files on dvd? I could copy it, but will it play on a normal dvd player. Secondly how I can watch those VOB files on my same computer? Is there any kind of settings? If possible please advice me with step by step guide. I will appreciate any help.

Hello Munish, if you'd like to read up on the DVD standard and requirements see; http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
Your burner may have come bundled with some kind of software player?
Generally, downloaded movies are notoriously troublesome. If they are only VOBs and are playable, you may get away with using IFOEdit to create the required IFO file to meet the DVD standard.

"Should I just copy the VOB files on dvd? I could copy it, but will it play on a normal dvd player."

For the purpose of playback on a conventional standalone player, you will need to "Re-author" the VOB files so they will be in a standard "DVD-related" file structure (e.g., the VOBs must have a valid IFO and BUP file associated with them). You can do this with an "Authoring" program such as "TMPGEnc DVD Author" or "DVD Lab".

Thanks for replying, Sorry I forgot to mention I have IFO files and couple of other files, can't remember as I am at work now. If I do have IFO and BUP files still I need TMPGEnc DVD Author" or "DVD Lab" programs?

A DVD requires a VIDEO_TS folder containing IFO, BUP & VOB files as per the link I posted.
TMPGEnc DVD Author/Nero/whatever should then burn these to a media, providing it's compatible with your standalone if playing on one.

It sounds like you've downloaded a full DVD movie "package" from the Internet. Perhaps the company site that you purchased it from can tell you what you have to do in order to burn their product properly...
