how do i extract files from a movie

Is there a free download that will enable me to extract files from a film? There are two scenes from wedding footage where some of the teenage guests get a bit carried away with their language but I recorded the footage on video mode on my handy cam. Does this mean the files are now set in stone?

Have you transferred the video to your PC?

If so, in what format (MPEG-2, .AVI, .MOV)?

At the moment I know only how to save the movie as an m-peg. It is currently on a disc in my SONYDVD-Handycam 101. How do I transfer it into the formats you mentioned? I am very ignorant in these matters, I'm very grateful for your patience.

The movie is m-peg2 PAL, on my hard drive. All I need to do now is extract those scenes that aren't suitable. But which prgramme do I use and how do I use it? Please help!

"At the moment I know only how to save the movie as an m-peg."

You can use "TMPGEnc" (Different than "TMPGEnc DVD Author") to edit it...

TMPGEnc>>File>>MPEGTools>>Merge&Cut (Set to "MPEG-2 Program [VBR])
