      You don't need to convert/re-encode.
DVDLab will directly author the SVCD mpeg to dvd.
Just rip the dat to mpeg in VCDGear, import to DVDLab.
Ignore the warning about non-standard video size.
Transcode all audio to 48khz when prompted.
Add as many episodes/mpg's as you like.
Author it to your hard drive.
If it's too large, use DVDShrink, then burn.
Test on a DVDRW to make sure your player will play them properly.

seems like a complicated process and more steps than neccessary for a novice reboot. multiple suggestions are better than only one

It takes longer to type out, than to actually do.

If you want to re-encode, there are thousands of ways of doing that.
Pick an encoder, import file, wait, output file.
          Author, burn.

If you want to select which file to watch, you're going to need advanced authoring though, such as TDA or DVDLab.

If you don't want any menu, author in ReJig.
As a last resort, you could use Nerovision Express to do it all. Don't count on quality or audio sync though.

"I would like to convert my video collection, which are on cd's to DVD's."

            1) What is the format of the videos (.AVI, MPEG-1, VCD, MPEG-2, SVCD, .MOV, .WMV, etc.)?

            2) What is your purpose - to be able to play on a standalone DVD player, or to simply have your collection occupy fewer discs?

            3) What file formats can your standalone DVD player (If you have one) play?

Thanks for all the help. I downloaded Vcdgear and DVDLAB. I also found a great guide on walking me thru for DVDLAB, however, for VCDGEAR, I found conflicting instructions and when I tried them I had errors and could not continue. The problem is extracting the files from the SVCD's to the harddrive. I have used Shrink and have been backing up DVD's for sometime now. This is my first kick at the cat with SVCD to DVD. Any additional help will be greatly appreciated.
