    CPU Utilisation of 3.11 & 4.x codecs

I've been wondering about this. Which if these codecs generally take more CPU cycles to process, assuming similar filesize & video resolution and same/no audio?

I'll keep my own comments until I get further feedback.

I didn't make a good test comparison. But I can play my encoded divx 3.11 and 4.12 one pass without any problems (512x384). When I encode to 4.12 two pass (same resolution, zero post processing level) it doesn't play smooth.

    My system:

    Athlon 1.2 GHz (133 MHz), 384 MB, HDD WD 60 MB 7200 RPM. video: Asus 3800, 32 MB. Win98.

    Suggestions ???

I had no problems with either of my machines, be it my PIII800 or PIV1.8. However, I plan to lend the encodes to my friends, some of whom have computers below the 500MHz mark, so CPU utilisation becomes quite an important issue.

My own comments will still be withheld until I get more response.
