movies look wahed out

Hello
Please can anybody help
After a fresh install of Windows XP etc I find that when playing back movie clips or DVD's the picture appears washed out (far too bright and the colours are nearly luminescent) this happens in windows media player and also PowerDVD.
In windows desktop and when viewing photographs and playing games the pictures are fine !

Try adjusting the color, or reinstall Video drivers.
