Good Burning Hardware?

I'm Currently a newbie at this sort of thing but I've been interested for a while now. I found myself staring at 15 different types of product on the shelves ranging from $40 -$400. I want something durable but not commercial and I was wondering what is good way to go as far as the hardware for burning? (Sony, Samsung ...)

nec, pioneer are quite good. i have 2 lite-on's and have been problem free for a couple years...

I have a older Sony DRU-510A. I've had it for several years now, and its still going strong!

I just recently bought a NEC 3520A from newegg.com for about $55.00 US dollars. It too is a great drive.

I have a LiteOn 832s and 1633s which are not the newest LiteOn's but they take a licking and keep on ticking, and there are plenty of utilities out there that can make them do tricks.

2000 burns ONE coaster with TYG02's

Plextors are expensive, but if you want something that has great media test results for the best value, go with a Benz1640. Half the cost and posts almost as good results, not sure if Benz has bitsetting or if there is patched firmware for it.

I would buy an AOpen1648AAP Rom drive with the Plextor though. That combo (always used with the latest firmware, NEVER fails to rip and burn flawlessly)

I use 2 pioneers ..DVR-108 as a reader.....set up as slave
DVR-109 as a writer ..... ................. set up as master
had tip given to me by a commercial user who creates DVD's for his business enterprise

I ended up picking up a Sony DRU-720A. As far as I can tell it burns great with Memorex DVDR. I just wanted to thank you guys for your input
