Hi guys/girls, i was wondering where you stand on allowing discussion of downloaded episodes of TV series. Are they against forum rules? Is it illegal? I don't know what to believe anymore regarding such topics. Guess its a result from reading all those notices "any unauthorised copying, lending, etc" at the start of all dvd's i own...

    Just curious

i've always wondered about this too....tv captures aren't protected so i don't think it should be a problem?

i don't download any sort of tv series, as i have a hdtv card, and record all my favourite shows, cut out ads, encode to xvid/x264, and store on my second hdd. it is no different from using a vcr/pvr. i have, however, downloaded i think 4 episodes from certain tv shows because i missed them, and there was no way the networks were going to repeat them any time soon, or even a dvd release. i am just wondering if the laws are any different

for example, i missed the second and third episode of "lost" (currently my favourite tv show ) due to factors beyond my control. it would not be my favourite show if i was unable to obtain the episodes i had missed, and stopped watching the series...

From the brief research I did, the "Recording of T.V. shows for your "OWN" personal use is legal."

With you, yes it legal. If he wants to borrow your copy of "Archie Bunker", then it is illegal.

Using a DVD Recorder to record your TV shows off of local/satellite TV, then burning them to DVD.

Who is the lawyer here that says it's legal to lend something out or not?

IMHO, we should let people decide for themselves. Otherwise, we may be misleading folks.

Plus, our members are in many jurisdictions. What's legal in one place may not be in another and vice-versa.

I do wish we had a rule on making legal comments. ADMIN!
