Which Media Player Do You Use?

Tell us which media player you use to watch dvd's/movies most often, and what you like about it. as for me, its 'media player classic', ofcourse. I like the fact that its free, low on resources/fast, and excellent advanced options

The DVDShrink preview window of course!

Seriously tho, I think I've only watched 1 complete DVD at the computer and that was with PowerDVD 5. I use MPClassic for anything that isn't a DVD and for quick checking of .VOBs.

For testing menus, subs, streams and resumes in re-authored titles I use PowerDVD, MPClassic, IFOEdit and load them into Shrink as a cheap 'compliance test' before I burn the ISO.

IMHO, Showtime is the most compliant SW player around. Free if you have Nero. If you don't MPC is a very good alternative.

IfoEdit also has a player built in which is pretty good.

Good to know, looks like I'll be adding another step to the testing process.

dono what you're talking about... i installed tons of media players on my pc for years.. i keep coming back to MS Media Player.. i find it the most comfortable.
Anyway - without it to pick from the list you can't get any real results..

WMP isn't included, because its crap
I never watch a full movie in that program - just use it when I want to see which titlesets the DVD jumps to while you play it.

If I want to see which subs that are used (can sometimes be several) for the main movie I use Nero Showtime.

well i was talking 'bout watching DivXviD (and such) movie files.. that's:
                  1. move the cursor to the file name,
                  2. Press the Enter key
                  3. Press Alt+Enter for full screen,
                  4. Leave a note on the coffee table sayin "If you don't see me I sunk deep inside the sofa, please bring me back",
                  AND
                  5. lay idle on the sofa for the next 1-3 hours..

What else do you need from a player ???

For DVD media I got a DVD player.. I don’t use the PC.

I use PowerDVD 6 (both on my monitor and projector). I have never really liked showtime and Media Player Classic.

                    WMP is juts plain awful.

since the two votes for 'other' are for media player, maybe a mod could change 'other' to 'wmp'?

Other than the ****ty DVD user interface, can you please explain how WMP is "juts plain awful" ?

Does it render DivX/MPEG worse than others ?

its simply an opinion of mine that wmp is not nearly as good as other commercial/free players out there. it doesn't provide me with the options i need, whereas other players such as media player classic can: such as adding audio delay, giving preference to certain playback filters (extremely important to me), advanced subtitle options (such as connecting to internet database, picking resolution, etc), customizeable hotkeys, choice of directshow video output (the most important one, IMO, as it allows me to force vmr7/9/windowed/renderless, etc), built-in filters (for dvd and 5.1 audio), very low on resources, and many more smaller features that add up and make it the excellent player that it is

its not that wmp isn't a solid stable player, its the features its missing, that other players have to offer. so it just doesn't cut it for me...

I get DVD's breaking up and pixelating every now and then in WMP. If I put the disc through PowerDVD it is fine.
