A couple of days ago my buffer level (doesn't matter what program I'm using) started jumping from 10-85 % all the time. As a result it's a very slow burn and some don't work at all. I have run virus and spyware tools to no avail. If the dvd drive is just going bad, that's cool, I can replace it, I just don't know...please help...Thanks, Shawn

What else are you doing while burning? I do nothing at all - just leave the machine to do it's thing. I've noticed that even receiving an email can have some effect, as my email files (currently 500Mb of emails - I never throw anything away!) are on the same drive as the DVD data files.
So, if you are, don't run anything else while you are burning.
Having said that, it's most likely your DMA - see Fix Your DMA in my signature.
