      Courtesy of Google:
As DVI and HDMI connections become more and more widely used, we are often asked: which is better, DVI (or HDMI) or component video? The answer, as it happens, is not cut-and-dried.

[incase ur DV is not DVI]

        best video quality transmission
        as by ur list, leave DV.... rest are as this....;

        Component (3 cable)
        S-Video
        Composite

now lets see DV u use it only for sending data /transmission to pc/hardware for capturing purpose. Component, u need a hardware that support component output [very rare, expensiv, very Pro] so u left with DV only for normal capturing. rest in the list are also used for sending data to watch on TV's and likes....

        hope im not too confusing...

if by dv you did mean 'dvi',

dvi wins, then look at atfish's post

            Thanks. you're all very helpful.

My primary purpose is to have a nice chroma key material to be edited in an AvidXpresPro system.

We tried DV and its definitely bad. We have a nice studio, chroma key setup & lights.

We also have VideoToaster3 that can record uncompressed material. My idea is to try to record an uncompressed video to VT and then import it into Avid.

We are using a SonyDSR390 (DVCAM) with composite, s-video, and CCU port.
now, we dont really have a CCU so we cannot extract the component signal from the 26-pin port.

Regarding cables, is it possible to use a 26-pin to 3-BNC cable from the SonyCamera to the VT? or will S-video sufice?

            Thanks.

dude if ur finding dv as bad ur s-video will suck hard

anyway, try watching what uv recorded, if its good enough dv will transmit exactly same [somwhat depends on dv codec too]

can u pls be specific what ur exactly doing while capturing ur footage, what software ur using, what hardware ur using...

regarding ur cables, wait for some other ppl to answer
