you can see if there is a new firmware for this drive. i looked back at your history and i see this is an on going problem. i'd take taelon's advice and take back the replacement. i'd demand my money back to buy something else.

What brand of discs do you use?

(You already have the latest firmware version installed)

I've gotten the same problem on this, types of DVD-R's that I use are memorex, and only now i received that error message. It only happened with ice princess, hopefully it'll be the last time.

this time i was using memorex dvd+r 8x. in the past i used philips 4x and always got a good burn. well, after i installed my replacement dvd drive it would no longer recognize the philips, so ive been trying all various types of dvds to see which will work.

so far, the maxell 8x worked 3 times in a row, and the memorex 8x worked 2 times, but then failed 3 other times. this whole thing makes me so mad bc i never had any probs before the original drive died.

also, one other side note. i also completely rebooted windows on my computer. is there anyway that this could hamper the dvd drive?

            bb, rebooting shouldn't affect anything.
Insert empty disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW.)
This drive simply doesn't like your media. I think they sent you a bum drive. The only other suggestion I can make right now is to eliminate the Sonic driver

Since it's a potential source for conflicts with Nero. Run this RoxiZap Tool:
http://softwareupdates.roxio.com/gm/...ls/roxizap.exe Then reboot and see if it makes any difference.
