    2 part Question

    1. What is the difference in Video files tagged MPG and MPEG.

    2. Is there a way to convert them from MPG to MPEG?

Reason im asking i have alot of music Videos that are in MPG format, i burned them to a disk and the dvd player wont read them. Yet the MPEG files it will read them. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks in advance

.mpg and .mpeg as file extensions are interchangeable. You don't have to convert bewteen them. Just try renaming the files to .mpeg and then burn them to disk. Some applications might be fussy about the filename so renaming the file will make them happy.

There are different kinds of mpeg files (mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg4 etc.) but the differences in how these files are encoded won't show up in the file extension.

If you're still having problems you can always open the .mpeg in something like VirtualDubMod or MainConcept to see specifically what kind of .mpeg file you have. You may need to re-encode it.

A .mpg file can be mpeg-1 for VCD mpeg-2 for SVCD or DVD. If you don't know what kind of mpg of your music videos, you can open them with DGIndex or DVD2AVI (all free programs) and go to Preview to get their video informations (For example: 720x480 29.97fps fpr mpeg-2 NTSC, 729x576 25fps for mpeg-2 PAL, 352x240 29.97fps for mpeg-1 NTSC, 352x288 25fps for PAL mpeg-1...and many more). I would recommend you to download and try TMPGEnc and and its cousin DVD Author to convert and author to create your DVD. If you have any difficulty to run them, please come back and ask for help. just to add to the good advice given, virtualdub is another free program that will also tell you useful info about the mpg's such as the resolutions, FR etc. it would be an asset especially if you encode with tmpgenc because it comes in handy if you want to re-compress or change audio, edit etc....before encoding.
