Divx codecs craches the PC

My PC seems to crach unexpectedly when using both Tmpgenc and Virtualdub with ALL divx-codec versions. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

try Uninstall Divx 5 it got alot of bugs

it could also be that the avi u are trying to play/edit is corupt or damage it some way

As Conda mentioned, uninstall divx 5.0

If your problem is still unresolved, check your directx version and your video card/graphics drivers. If this is a recent problem, examine any hardware software you may have installed.

Are you saying this only occurs when you use BOTH programs simultaneously, or when you use EITHER program?

This occurs when i use either tmpgenc or any program using the divx-codecs (i presume). I can use tmpgenc to edit or cut mpeg clips, but when decoding-encoding to and from divx, the computer hangs, totally freezes.

I have uninstalled ALL divx drivers and codecs, then i installed Divx 3.11 and i am currently testing the system, and i have successfully encoded one full film so far!

Nope... Managed to encode one full clip, but when trying to encode another clip, the computer still hangs. So the problem persists... Have installed new drivers for my video card, and there are no new directx drivers for winxp. Have the same problem if i run Win2k too... mabey hardware problems? Before i had an old PII 350Mhz, but upgraded almost all the hardware (new motherboard, cpu, memory and videocard).

Please check that you have installed the latest drivers for your mobo and graphics card.

There is no way, that any codec can cause a complete system crash on a properly setup system.

What priority did you run the programs under? Running it under very high priority may cause problems.

try not to run any program in the backround.


Try disable programs porgrams like kazaa , icq , and other utilites in system tray

Nope... nothing works. Have tried everything. Arrrgh...

conda, AVP and other security programs should never be disabled, especially when the thing you're going to do is DivX encoding. The extra CPU time (little, if any) is not worth the risk.

Bias, have you totally made sure that you are using stable drivers? Can you play games (or other intensive programs) stably with your system?
