How to copy from dvd-rom to dvd-writer?

Ok, can't i copy a dvd from my dvd-rom to my blank dvd-r in my dvd-writer?
If so, how can i without backing-up the movie on the hard drive which takes twice as long?

what software will you use? if you want to use shrink for the copy, use your source disc in the dvd-rom drive and select your back-up target to your burner. see here

another alternative is to use nero, select "copy disc" ferature, then select your destination and source drives respectively

p.s. i wouldn't reccomend "on the fly" burning due to more chances of a bad burn.
