Digital movie making

Hey! Not sure if this is the right area to post this in but I am just starting out in digital film and I would appreciate any advice at all on the kind of software and camera which would best be suited to this. I am interested in making horror films so I would like something that can give me good lighting effects. Oh yeah, what kind of DVD digital video camera would be best?
