    Editing a WMV file

I am a big fan of music videos, but occasionaly they contane profane lyrics. Since I try to run a "G-rated" website, I obviously have to edit them. I have no problem with AVI files, as I just use VirtualDub, and check Direct Stream Copy for video and then just say WAV File for audio. However, how do I do that for Windows Media videos? The only way I know is to use Ulead, mute the original, and add the audio to the audio track, then share it, trying to set the bitrate exactly the same and copying/pasting the title/author/copyright fields. Is there an easy way to do this, like just using a WMV equivalent of VirtualDub?

By the way, if anyone wants to see my editing job on music videos, check my Music Videos page or my server.

download & install 'windows media encodre 9'. go into start-->program files-->windows media-->utilities-->windows media stream editor.

it will do a demux (just like vdub) and dump the wma file onto your hard disk. use an audio editing program of your choice (i usually use nero wave editor), making sure you keep the file length intact. use stream editor to mux them back again

Sounds good. Will this keep the title/author/copyright and the original filesize/bitrate the same?

I did that but noticed that even when putting the same clip back together, it is a different bitrate. Why?

its probably just a miscalculation, i'm guessing stream editor calculates the bitrate through file size and length. AFAIK no encoding is done, so no quality/bitrate is changed. all it does is demux/remux the files, it does not edit them

            AFAIK (what does that mean??)
Um... nonetheless it did change the bitrate. It was like 2021kpbs and it resulted in like 2042 or something. No big deal, but I noticed it. Also, how do I add the title, author and copyright fields back in - the program clears those.

how do you know it did? (what are the differences in file size between original and edited?) like i said, it was either a miscalculation when muxing the file back (i'd imagine windows does a simple calculation of file size/length, which will NOT be accurate if the file was encoded with vbr video/audio), or because you re-encoded the audio...

as for adding title, etc, try right-clicking the file, click 'properties', and look around in there. i never use wmv, so i can't be sure.

I know that the bitrate is different because WMP tells you the bitrate when it is playing the file, and it shows a different file. Remember that this all I did was demux a file and remux it.
