    Question for the experts

Hey this has gotten me quite frustrated. I am trying to put a PNG file as an overlay for a video clip that has transparency in it. Basically it is not a square, so I used Microsoft Photo Editor to make the rest transparent, so in a program like PowerPoint I can put anything behind it and it looks fine. However in Ulead Video Studio, it replaces the transparency with grey, so it looks horrible on top of the video. How can I solve this? I know there is a way to do overlays in VirtualDub but I don't know how to do this either.

open the file in 'virtualdub', click 'video', then 'filters'. select the 'logo' filter. click 'compression', choose and set up your codec. under 'file', click 'save as avi'. don't know if it will work any better than ulead regarding transperancy though...

but let us know how it goes

There is no Logo filter. Just an empty dialog box. Am I supposed to download a Logo filter somewhere?

Yeah, I found it. Has the same freaking problem with transparency. Is this at all possible to put a transparent-background file as a watermark?

One other question, I know how to edit GIF files and put transparency that way. Is there a way to save every frame of a video (the video I want the watermark on is only about 20 frames) and then add the watermark - and potentially put the GIF's back as a video file?

ok if you do it this way it will work:

download the logo filter from here http://neuron2.net/logo/logo.html unzip it and put the files in the virtualdub's 'plugins' folder. now run virtualdub, there should be 2 logo filters. choose the other one. make sure 'transperant color' is enabled. click 'show preview', and play around with the settings till you like what you see. encode.

What I did was: I opened the video in Ulead, and then just moved frame-by-frame and saved them as BMP files. Then in PowerPoint I just put the pic in and made it show up on all the BMPs. Then I put them back into Ulead and saved them as a video.

good to see you got it working, but a little time consuming if you ask me...

Yes it is, but that way it looks much better than it did in VirtualDub.
