Ok guys, I'm TOTALLY stumped by this one. As Chewy and Blutach know, I got a hat of RITEK DVD+R DL's today. I eagerly burned my first disc, SWIII, only to be disappointed to find it skipping on my PS2. Then I tried my Pioneer which told me "NO DISC". Next I went to a Cyberhome CH300 and it played, but skipped near the middle. So I tried it on my computer and it worked fine. Then, after much consultation, I burned another DVD. This one played fine and got a Quality Score of 31 on a CDSpeed Scan. Then, just for the heck of it, I tried the first disc on my Pioneer and it played fine! I tried the other two and they played fine too! So, I ran a Scan again. Here's the kicker. The Quality score had gone up from a 17 to an 85!
Attached are the two screens of the SAME disc. If anyone has an explanation, please let me know! BTW I handle all my DVD's by the edges and these have no dust/scratches. Some ideas I had. Could scanning the disc somehow set the dye better and hence more readable? Do DVD's just settle over time? Or has RITEK come up with a self-healing DVD?
