    Joining AVI help

    Hi

I have been trying to join some AVI (DivX) files with Virtualdub. Many guides say to set video and audio to "direct stream copy". I supposed that the final file would have the size around the sum of the two previous ones, but it ended with a huge size, like uncompressed files.
Do I have to recompress the video and audio?
So, why do they guide to process with "direct stream copy"?
If I recompress will it lose quality?

    thk for the help.

Not just "many", but ALL instructions on the proper way to join .AVIs using VirtualDub do and should direct you to set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying" - which should result in a fielsize equal to the sum of the filesizes of joined files.

I can only assume that, somehow, you left "Video" set to its default state of "Full Processing Mode". You must click on the "Video" tab and change the setting to "Direct Stream Copying".

Which version of VirtualDub are you using?
