MP4 playback

Hello All,

Having problems with VOB to MP4 encoding, I'm using PSP video 9 for the conversion so I can play the file back on a PDA.
The encoding seems to go ok (take's some time!), but i'm having problems playing back the converted MP4 file to check for quality. I've downloaded and installed both Quicktime 7 and VLC media player but still can't seem to get files to open and play!!!!

I'd appreciate some advice.

i recommend you use 'media player classic' for playback

VLC should play it. Use Gspot to identify the file and what codec/s it is using

Don't think GSpot properly supports mp4's. VLC should definatly work. Also I pretty much stopped compiling ffdshow since Milan started putting up builds again and numerous other people began releasing compiles. So you won't find the latest version there any more.

The easiest way is to convert the file to an AVI, and then play it on Windows Media Player, or whatever else you choose. See here:

Note that all you really need is QuickTime and that MP4UI. You do NOT need TMPGEnc to make it work, just VirtualDub. And another suggestion, save the video as one file, and the audio as another, as the audio will not be saved with the video, like the site says. Then, just use VDub to mux them together.

How can converting to avi and then playing possibly be easier than just playing?

Also MP4UI won't work if it is an AVC mp4. In fact I really wouldn't recommend MP4UI since it is based on really old mpeg4ip sources now.

Um... because the easiest way to play something is either Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player, neither of which does MP4's. So converting them solves that.

MPC does do mp4. sidearm wants mp4 so that he can play videos on his psp...
