Convert MP4S video to... well, anything?

I've got some video files that are in the M$ MP4S format. I want to convert these to any other format so that I can open them up in the likes of VirtualDUB and join them together.

    I've tried:

    VirtualDUB-MPEG2-1.6.11
    TMPGenc 2.5

    Both refuse to open them.

Is there any free software I can use to convert these?

    Thanks in advance.

Try Ulead Video Studio. It joins just about anything (except RM). www.ulead.com to get a free 30-day trial.

download & install the latest ffdshow from http://ffdshow.sourceforge.net/tikiw...etting+ffdshow

open start-->program files-->ffdshow-->VFW codec configuration. click the 'decoder' tab. set 'divx 4', and 'mp4 1, 2 and 3' from 'disabled' to 'libavcodec'

      try opening in vdub

Probably in an asf container though. VirtualDub MPEG2 should work, together with ffdshow that is.

          Thanks for the replies.

I'm already using ffdshow, so configuring the settings detailed by anonymez was easy enough. Celtic_Druid, I use your ffdshow builds, so thanks if you're one and the same!

So... I can now load the file into Vdub, but I only seem to get the audio. Both input and output screens are black. Additionally, the "append AVI segment" menu item is greyed out - I usually use this to join files together. If I select "Direct Strem Copy" and save as AVI to disk, I get a file much smaller than the original.

Here are the file properties when loaded into Vdub:

          Any ideas?

I use IMTOO for conversions, it works amazingly well! Free trial but converts 5 minute or less vids. But it'll give you a feel for the prog and what it can do.

Thanks guys, but I'm not really looking for a commercial product - I don't do enough with video to warrant it.
