    Good DVD Media?

I've been using HP 8x DVD-R's lately.. what are some good brands? What's the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?

DVD+R can be bitset which allows you to burn it so players actually see it as if it was a commercially pressed DVD. DVD-R does not support such bitsettings.

As for Quality Media... Verbatims! There is a guide that covers media ID's and their quality that you may find of interest.

For the extra dollar or two it's worth it to get DVD+R? Thanks for the guide.

You're welcome. And I would say Verbatim +R are worth it.

Damn. I was looking at the Verbatim price's and it's pricy as ****. I get all my computer related stuff from a local store here in Toronto. They have good prices too. A 10 pack of DVD+R Verbatim's is 21 bucks! (http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...781&cid=719.88)
          I can get a 50 pack of Sony DVD-R for 25 bucks (http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...19.88&mfg=SONY)

There are other sources to aquire Verbatim +R at lower prices. Super Media Store is selling them at a price that's equal to about .57cents a piece. I'm sure one of our other media gurus can provide another link too. Just do a Google. It goes without saying that Media Quality is everything when it comes to making a good backup.

Yep! I shouldn't be so biased as to only tote Verbs. Thanks for adding this!

Try Verbatim 8x DVD+R. DO NOT get 16x tho. Now, these are not the best, but they work great, as long as they are DVD+R and 8x.

Okay, I think I might be on the right track to solving a compatibility issue... I burn to -R discs, and was not aware of the "bitset" approach with +R, as mentioned above... can someone give me a brief explanation of "bitset" and point to a thread that might have already covered this?

Also, I tried burning to +R's once, and for some reason I kept getting an error when it was time for the burner to write to the disc... I've got a Vaio, and the burner is designed for both + & - R... any thoughts? It burns -R discs fine...

See here for detailed information on bitsetting. As for the burner, what model #? It will help in determining if your drive even supports bitsetting.
