Best video format for home movies

I use Ulead video studio 9.0 and am in the process of transferring some very old VHS tapes to DVD. My question is the best format to save these videos in after they are edited. Of course the basic options are DV, DVD, VCD, SVCD, and MPEG1 & MPEG 2. These are old VHS tapes so the quality isnt top notch. I want to keep the best quality possible while at the same time not using 200 DVD's. So what would be my best options? All together I have about 150-350 hrs of video and probably more to come. Any suggestions?

Save them as MPEG-1 or MPEG-2.
