    Newbie question!!!!!

just bought a Panasonic GS19 miniDV starter camera. and when i load the video onto my pc the video quality is very poor. i'm using windows xp and windows movie maker simply b/c that is what popped up as default but need advice as to what to use. movie maker seems to only output in .wmv and i would like something in mpg or mpg2. any suggestions?

basically what i'm trying to ask is what do i need to do to get the best quality digital video onto my pc and dvd's? TIA
