    Adding subtitles

I would like encode a divx with subtitles or add subtitles to a movie that will able to be played in Media Player. So basically pernament subtiles that are part of the avi file rather than selected seperatly. How do I do this?

If you are converting from a ripped DVD, use Flask and select the subtitles of your choice as part of the process. The subtitiles will become a permanent part of the converted .AVI...

If you use virtualdub to encode, you can use vobsub to rip the subs from the DVD, to add the subs to the avi file you can use a virtualdub filter. Or you can use directvobsub which is a direct show filter, which displays the subs on the fly.

There is a guide on this at www.doom9.org
