What is the Best Divx software?

I downloaded my home video from my Sony Video Camera to my hard disk using Studio DV9 and came out with a 2.3 gigabyte AVI file. I used DivX Converter by DivXNetworks Inc. to convert to a Divx file which gave me a 88mb Divx file but the quality was very poor. Any suggestions on what I should do to get a high quality Divx file? I used TMPGEnc 3.0 Express and came out with a high quality mpg file but file size is 713MB. I have heard so much about Divx file which is highly compressed but still gave very high quality video. But why am I getting such poor quality Divx video? Thanks.

it may not be the tool that made it look poor but the final size/bitrate may just be too small/low

what is the running time of the movie or would you know the bitrate that was used?

      1. Using Studio DV9 to capture my home video from my Sony Video Camera, my 10 minute video came out as an AVI file with 2.3GB file size. I do not know the bit rate.

      2. Using TMPGEnc 3.0 Express, I converted the above 2.3GB AVI file to a 713MB Mpg file, with image resolution of 720x470, Average video bitrate of 9200 kbits/sec. Image is high quality.

      3. Using DivX converter, it just give you a choice of Home Theater or High Def quality, I tried both. Both gave me a 88MB divx file that was extremely poor quality.

      Thanks for your help.
