Downloading Streaming Files

Congrats, you have now downloaded a "hard to get" video file. This also works on sites such as PutFile and others.

This does work on audio too, as long as it is some type of Windows Media audio (WMA, MP3, WAV).

For Real files, StreamDown WILL download it, but WM Recorder will NOT get the stream.

For those, just put the mouse in the top right corner, click "Play in RealPlayer", and then click on View then Clip Properties. Get the URL that way.

Well, in AOL and Yahoo music, they disable right clicking. This is so that the "average Joe" does not download it, and they get more money, since they show commercials this time. I mean hard to get that you can't just click a "save as" button, and for RTSP files, you can't even use Internet Explorer to download.

I would assume streaming legal web content that they don't want you to save

So, this is a means to bypass software protection for copyrighted content that is not owned by the downloader?

hmmm, I don't see any difference between taping it or recording it on a dvd recorder, but then that's legal here in the usa

Right, there is no difference. Same as taping a music video off of MTV.

They are even putting watermarks on AOL's that say AOL in the corner, so that you "always know it came from there".

So they don't want you to download, but I do not think it's illegal. Put it this way, all the software is perfectly legal... you have to pay to get a full version. That means that the software is legal at least, and my method is not all that hard to do, but it saves people some time.

Would it still be legal if they don't want you to download it? I suppose it would be if they are supplying it to you freely, but are there restrictions on saving it?

Well I am not a lawyer so I have no idea.

But, I got it from another site... I did not invent the programs. I found these programs seperately from a site devoted to streaming media, and just combined them so it's easy to use.

I think they don't want you to download it just because they make money off the advertisements that play before the video itself. But, this method does not only apply for AOL or Yahoo, it works for anything. For instance, that site that is commonly linked to here for the funny videos. If you don't wanna see all those popups and banner ads every time you watch the video, you can use this method to save them to your hard drive.

I don't think it would even begin to fall under the scope of DRM.

now sharing these files would be a nono as that requires a special liscense

I think there's a difference in having bought a DVD and making a backup compared to downloading content you have not bought.

Need to think about this.
