Firmware flashed but now installing new burner

Ok my old burn I belive is dying and the qustion I have is:

I had updated (flashed the most current firmware for my old burner)

Tonight the burner no longer works. So I am going to install the new one, do I need to remove the old firmware, is that even possible?

when you flash to the new firm ware it delete the other one in the burner, you still have the firmware save in your harddrive (the new firmware)

Sorry, PA. Confused here. You got 2 burners right? One has had it, yes? It's for the trash.

So install the other on the secondary master and update the firmware.

only one burner on my pc I have 2 yes one in a box the dead one in my pc.

I am just wondering if I need to do anything with the firmware that I upgraded or does that not matter when installing the new burner?

I have a regular DVD rom also that I am not concered about.

No, chuck dead one out. See my previous post. When new installed, update the firmware for it.

Install on secondary master.

Installing a new DVD-RW is a snap. Just make sure the jumpers on the back are set to master and install it as master on the secondary cable(at the end of the IDE cable), with your DVD-Rom set to slave and attached to the middle plug of the secondary IDE.
It will be recognized by XP and you should be good to go. The firmware should be the latest already and if not you can update it with the latest firmware for that DVD-RW make.

I guess what I was getting at is will the latest firmware from the old burner now in the trash conflict with the firmware for my new burner, so far it deosnt seem to be an issue.

I just wasnt sure If I needed to uninstall anything.

Firmware only resides in the burner, not in the computer, there's a little chip that you flash(program) on the circuit board in the burner

it is the other one from the original delema. LOL
The optorite 1205, the one I was going to exchange for the optorite 1603 but after saying how my other burner outlasted the tech. it died! This is one that probably wont work with 16X discs but the only one I have for right now.
