    problem playing disks

I bought a new DVD/surround sound player. I have DVD's burned on Verbatim -R's and I used DVD decryptor and Nero to burn some and Shrink to burn others. They are all the same blank disks (from the same spindle). Some will play on the new player and some will not. They all play on the previous surround DVD player I had and all will play on my stand alone DVD recorder. If the new player had a problem with the type of disks I used wouldn't ALL of them not play? Not just some of them? Also some of the DVD's I recorded on the stand alone player do the same thing. Some will play on the new player and some will not. Again, they are all the same blank DVD's. What gives?

    marginal burns?
Do the verbatim's give you problems? If so what are the details?

That link was to a post that I actually started when I bought a new brand of disks that were not working for me. I subsequently took those disks back. That is not the same problem I am having now.

I have not had any problems at all with the Verbatims until I bought this new player. What do you mean by "the details"?

let's see how one of the problem verbatim disks(already burned) scans with disk quality in cdspeed

        part 2

details would be mid code of the blanks, burn speed, firmware of burner etc

            burn speed
            on the disk scanned?

source for the verbatim disks(where did you buy them)?
those have been out of production for a long time?

may be a problem with your burner, how old and how much use?

I bought those disks over the internet. I forget the company name, it was a while ago. Is it the disks that are a problem? THe new player is more sensitive to them than the other player I had that played them?

the new player is only part of the problem, those disk were probably some of the best media ever made, but may have been stored improperly

Here is a scan of another brand of disk that was recorded using my stand alone dvd recorder. Again, with this brand some play and some dont on the new player. As for storing the disks, they are stored in a (dark) cabnet in a dvd binder where there is very little humidity. My dvd recorder (in my pc) is about 1 1/2 year old and has burned in the neighborhood of 150 disks. Some of the ones that won't play are from when I first bought the dvd recorder.

that disk should play in almost any player

the tyg01's may have been stored improperly for a long time before you bought them? The verbatims should have been labeled made in japan?

the memorex burner may be on it's last legs but I would crossflash to the newer liteon firmware in an effort to get better burns, may just be too far gone tho.

I've looked for firmware updates for the memorex recorder I have and couldn't find any. Where is this lite-on firmware you speak of? What makes you say that the recorder is on it's last legs?

well if it's having problems burning the TYG01's or scanning them?

I said may, is it doing any good burns?

                            if you look here

and look down under the 1633, you will see your drive listed
                            the codeguys firmware here
                            BSOY

                            at the bottom patched crossflash
will give you a 6 month newer frimware

be sure and flash with no disks in drive and from safe mode

It is giving good burns. All the burns will play in one dvd player/recorder but it's hit and miss like I said with the newer one. What are the advantages of newer firmware? I'm always afraid to change something like that then potentially have even more problems.
