Can't play store bought DVD with WinDVD 7

I'm having trouble playing all original DVD's from the store in WinDVD ver. 7 Platnum. The program comes up, The play button does nothing. WinDVD doesn't play on other Thinkpads or IBM Desktops either.

    I have installed ffdshow.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

might sound like a stupid question, but have you selected the source (told windvd where the disc is)?

This isn't a stupid question at all. Yes I did select my DVD drive. It seems to me like I have to be doing something stupid/simple like not knowing how to play a DVD. It isn't only this laptop that I can't get WinDVD to play on. I wonder if I have a defective copy of WinDVD or something? Is there some program available that can test to make sure I have the correct Codecs loaded and working?

      Thank you,

Thanks for letting me know. I just tested it. A DVD plays fine in Windows Media Player.

          Thank you,

Please start a new thread. This has nothing to do with this question.
